Hair Care and Styling

Hair care and hair styling is important because your hair is your crown, the first signature of your identity, the projection of your ego. It’s the first thing people see, it’s the first basis on which people judge you, and it’s how you see yourself in the mirror. You want to make sure it looks great, always. Here’s how.

Tip #1: Keep it Clean

To care for your hair, you need to regularly wash it with shampoo and water. Not everyday, but a few times in the week. It removes dirt, dust, dandruff, and other debris.

Tip #2: Condition your Hair

After you apply shampoo, follow that up with conditioner. Conditioner creates a protective coating over the hair follicle and filling in broken sections of the hair. Think of it like filling up potholes on the road. This ensures the hair can bend without cracking and be subjected to heat without splitting. This also makes the hair soft and shiny.

Tip #3: Use a Comb

After drying your hair, use a comb to untangle and section your hair in preparation for styling. If you use a wooden comb, it’ll prevent static from setting in. But, it’s not such a big deal what material the comb is made of as long as you’re using it to care and lay your hair right.

Tip #4: Use hair styling cream

You want to use water based hair styling cream with as many organic ingredients as possible. You don’t want to subject your scalp to strong chemicals that can create itchiness and dandruff. At the same time, a water based hair styling cream is easy to wash off at the end of the day. To apply it, put a finger tip of product in your palm and soften it by rubbing your palms together. Once it’s soft, rub it into your hair.

Tip #5: Use a moderate heat setting

Now, with the product in your hair, use the comb and hair dryer to lock in the style of your hair through the following process.

The key here is not to use too hot of a heat setting. If the air is too hot, you can burn your hair and make it brittle. You can also burn your skin! So watch out. Use a low heat setting to both care and lay the hair right. But, the nice thing about a hair dryer is that it will soften the hair styling cream allowing you to more easily shape your hair.

Then, use the cold shot function on your hair dryer to cool the hair styling cream so that it hardens again, finally locking in the shape of your hair.

Tip #6: Get Regular Haircuts

Your hair has its own personality. You need hair styling cream to bring it under your control. But despite that, differing hair growth rates, cowlicks, bald spots, and scars will eventually make your hair’s personality stronger than your ability to bring it under control.

That is why frequent haircuts are always recommended. You want to come in every 4 to 6 weeks to ensure your hair looks its best. Some people come in every 3 months, but honestly, you don’t want to finally get a haircut only because your hair is intolerable to look at and you have an important meeting, date or photo shoot the next day.

Let how people see you be in your control. Get a haircut often.
